Exeter Cathedral

Archived from the blog ‘Image of Exeter’

I thought that I would start my picture blog with one of my favourite places to see in Exeter “The Cathedral of St Peter”

The Cathedral dominates the close and indeed in most directions the city’s skyline for miles also. So the next time you visit the city – look up and see if you can spot it’s huge Norman towers.

A history excerpt from wikipedia reads

“The founding of the cathedral at Exeter, dedicated to Saint Peter, dates from 1050, when the seat of the bishop of Devon and Cornwall was transferred from Crediton because of a fear of sea-raids. A Saxon minster already existing within the town (and dedicated to Saint Mary and Saint Peter) was used by Bishop Leofric as his seat”
